To paint a figure is sometimes pursued as if an attempt to pin down; I prefer the idea that subjects have agency to naturally elude the grasp of both artist and viewer, a form of subversive rebellion.
As swipes of paint erase detail, she threatens to disappear. And, in losing her form, her power is revealed: she is the thief at work here.
